Providers strengthen AWS capabilities to meet Mexico’s dynamic business landscape

AWS has made significant investments in Mexico, reflecting its commitment to support digital growth and strengthen its regional presence. The company recently announced the opening of new local zones designed to offer lower latencies for customers who need closer geographic proximity to their compute workloads.

The AWS region in Mexico will be implemented with an investment of more than $5 billion, a fundamental amount to unlock the innovative potential and further expand the country’s competitiveness, which is going through a period of maturation of the partner ecosystem. This is reflected in the number of new companies accredited on the AWS portal, and the growing volume of certifications providers are achieving. The expansion and strengthening of the provider
ecosystem emerges as one of the main trends outlined in the first edition of the ISG Provider Lens™ AWS Ecosystem Partner 2024 study conducted in Mexico. Other trends also observed in the same study are discussed below.

Adopting cloud strategies with AWS

The growth of AWS services in Mexico has been driven by the increasing adoption of cloud solutions in various industries. Companies increasingly leverage AWS’ robust, scalable and secure infrastructure to optimize operations, drive innovation and ensure market competitiveness.

AWS stands out as a leading player in the cloud market in Mexico, and the trend seen in other regions of adopting multicloud strategies is not yet widely practiced in the country. Currently, customers are choosing to consolidate all their services into a single cloud, simplifying the management of environments and reducing the operational complexity inherent in managing multiple platforms. However, as the cloud market matures, Mexican companies will
likely begin to consider hybrid and multicloud architectures to take advantage of the specific benefits of each cloud platform.

The rapid growth of the AWS ecosystem may result in a talent shortage, given the high demand for qualified professionals. To address this challenge, providers in the country must invest in AWS training and certification programs. The AWS Partner Network (APN) also plays a critical role in empowering partners with the skills and competencies needed to meet market demands effectively.

Modernization and cloud-native development

In Mexico, there is a growing trend toward application modernization and adopting cloud-native development as companies seek to improve agility and operational efficiency. Organizations increasingly incorporate cloudnative
architectures and technologies to develop scalable, resilient and agile applications, especially on the AWS platform. This trend drives increased demand for professional services in containerization, serverless computing and microservices architectures.

Cloud-native development also empowers companies to leverage the latest technological innovations, such as AI, generative AI (GenAI) and big data, to optimize processes, develop new products and improve the customer
experience. This modernization enables companies to respond nimbly to market dynamics and consumer demands, positioning them at the forefront of the digital economy.

Transformation based on scaled data

Data-driven transformation is becoming an increasingly prominent trend as companies recognize the value of data as a strategic asset to drive innovation and competitiveness. Providers operating in Mexico are crucial in providing a wide range of data analytics services and solutions that enable businesses to efficiently capture, store, process and analyze
large volumes of data. By using AWS solutions such as Amazon Redshift, AWS Glue and Amazon QuickSight, partners can build robust and scalable data infrastructures that support data-driven transformations.

Data governance has also become a priority for many organizations. There is an increasing focus on creating a solid foundation of data that is reliable and accessible, which is essential to the success of data analytics initiatives.  Providers can help customers modernize data, achieve effective governance and provide security and managed services, all focused on creating trusted data environments to ensure they can be used effectively in AI and ML models.

Advancing AI and GenAI

Mexican companies’ use of AI and ML has proliferated, reflecting a global trend toward democratizing these  technologies making them accessible to various organizations. This is evident with the popularity of prebuilt models and specific tools, such as SageMaker, that simplify developing and implementing ML models, driving innovation. Providers are investing heavily to expand offerings and develop proprietary solutions.

Generative AI is an up-and-coming technology and represents one of the most exciting developments in recent years, attracting the attention of Mexican companies. GenAI is expected to become indispensable in virtually every industry, offering sophisticated automation that promises to transform all aspects of human-machine interaction with previously unimaginable capabilities. AWS is well positioned to enable users to create sophisticated models for diverse applications using AWS Bedrock.

The country’s providers are looking to expand their technical capabilities to conduct more proofs of concept with the technology and demonstrate to customers the potential and practical applications of GenAI, especially to drive operational efficiency and improve CX. To achieve this goal, they are investing in specialized training for their teams and strategic collaborations focused on AI. By integrating these innovations into their business models, providers expect to remain competitive in the market and lead the digital transformation in their respective industries, offering customers increasingly customized and efficient solutions.
